Lockdown Voices Number 20 MAYDAY

Writer's picture: Morgan FaggMorgan Fagg

This beautiful May Day Facebook post comes from my cousin Hillery Collins who is an E.M.T. in the Midlands.

Happy May Day (Bealtaine) to one and all from Ireland. The Bealtaine was a celebration and welcome of the summer. Here, it is rooted in the pre-Christian festival of Bealtaine. Bealtaine embraces the summer, bidding farewell to the dark winter half of the year. Flowers, dancing, and bonfires featured strongly in the festivities.

People also sought protection for themselves, their homes and livestock against supernatural forces.

As we face an unseen virus Covid-19 let us embrace our old traditions and look to brighter days ahead when we can embrace one another.
