Lockdown Voices Number 35 FAIR

Updated: May 31, 2020

Tonight my girlfriend’s niece said she had created a new Instagram account which will share a different meaningful quote every day. The account is called Fairerworld which I think is an excellent ideal for a young person to strive for and to wish to share with her peers.

This Lockdown Voice is dedicated to the future and those who will have to fix the world, we leave behind.

I stated about five years ago that, "We are the generation that finds either the solutions or the excuses."

In those five years, we have elected people like Donald Trump, Boris Johnson and Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil so I will sadly step aside, as part of the generation, full of excuses and let Greta Thunberg's generation take over. We have failed.

After teenager Thunberg warned the world that our home is on fire and we have to act; we stood by and watched the Amazon burn and then Australia where future generations will learn about Koala Bears and Kangaroos like we learnt of the Dodo because we didn't do do what we should have done.

When I was a young teenage or maybe a tween, (not that tweens existed in my day), my favourite quote was one I read in a 1990s National Geography magazine and it said:

We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.

The quote is credited to David Brower who was an environmentalist and leading mountaineer who founded the Sierra Club as well as Friends of the Earth.

Since moving to Madrid, my favourite new quote has been one from the Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes who said:

Luchar contra los tres gigantes, La Ignorancia, El Miedo y La Injusticia.

Yesterday, I watched CNN Reporter Omar Jimenez being arrested on live tv,

Today I saw a teenager starting an Instagram account called Fairer World

who knows what we will see tomorrow but if we tolerate what happened to Omar Jimenez yesterday rather than seeking a Fairer World today then tomorrow will likely be a worse world than today.

Move on from the past and create a brighter future,

today is a gift and that is why we call it The Present.

Acting Presidential: Pulitizer Prize winner JFK above offers us words of wisdom.

Lockdown Voices Number 35 is dedicated to the Pulitzer Prize-winning President and all the journalists who have reported fairly on historical events over the years, and I welcome one new journalist to a Fairer World.
